The Church of Christ of the Apostolic Faith The question is often asked, "If a person can be saved outside of the church." To me, this question is like asking, "Can a baby survive outside of a home?" And the answer to both questions is unequivocally, no! The church is necessary for the care, nourishment and discipline of the new-born babe in christ. all converts come into the body of Christ as "babes." and as such, they need what the natural babe needs - care! St. Peter writes to the new convert - "as newborn babes desire the sincere milk of the Word."(1 Peter 2:2) The Word is all important and necessary for spiritual growth (1 Corinthians 3:1). No babe is left to itself to feed itself; this is the task of the parents, especially the mother. No "spiritual babe" can successfully feed itself. They must have a "feeder" and in this case, the feeder is the pastor or the father. God left the record that the "overseers" were to "feed the flock of God." James said to Peter, "feed my sheep," "Feed my Lambs" (John 21:15-17). Secondly, the saved person needs to be under someone's jurisdiction. someone is "to rule over them and watch for their soul" (Hebrews 13:17) that may give an account to God. They need to be under the discipline and the responsibility of the house God. No Child of God is to be left to wander and roam all over God's creation and be saved. Jude calls these people"wandering stars for whom is reserved the blackness of darkness forever." (Jude 13). As in the natural, so in the spiritual - every child of God needs a home! a church home! They need the "communion of the saints"; every one of us need one another, for "we are members one of another" (Romans 12:5). No one member of the body can function independently and by itself. All members must be perfectly joined together in fellowship for the continuance of life. To be cut off and alone means "death". The togetherness of the body is its life and the life of its members. And to be saved one must abide in that fellowship. Jesus said to all of the branches, "Abide in me" (john 15:4); and there is no salvation apart from abiding. christ works through His body, and being apart from the body means certain death. stay in the church and go on to heaven.
